This is an audio story from Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh where a series of occurances of slope de-stabilisation and landslides have been seen over the past few years in areas. This has happened more in areas where construction work involving drill and blasting for underground tunneling of Hydro projects or for roads. The most evident impacts of these have been:
– Seepages and leakages in tunnels
– Land Slides leading road blocks
– Damages to Houses and fields
Despite several incidences of landslides in a fragile zone like Kinnaur, the government continues haphazard and unplanned construction in the region, the costs of which are being borne by local people. This story has been put together by Shazia Nigar (compilation and editing)and Shashank Katoch (voice over) for Himdhara, Environment Research and Action Collective.
